Rocking is similar to “Trackstand” and “Hopping”, rocking is a way to keep the bike stationary without putting a foot down.

Rocking lifts the rear wheel, then lifts the front wheel when it hits the ground again. Both brakes are squeezed, causing the bike to move rhythmically like a swing, without moving forward.

Rocking can be used to change position or balance the wheels before dismounting. Rocking is a more advanced skill than hopping and requires less energy from the mountain biker.

Rocking, hopping and trackstand are techniques necessary for balance at low speed.
